Vacation series – Kasauli – A beautiful quite destination in the hills
Kasauli is a cantonment and town, located in Solan district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is around 290kms from Delhi and lies at a height of 1,927 metres.
How we Travelled
We hired a car for our family. Started early foggy morning and had an amazing ride on the National Highway-1 till Ambala.
We took break for the famous parathas at Karnal. Comment below if you would like us to review highway food joints.
It took us around 6 hours to reach.
Where we Stayed
We had booked OYO rooms for the first time and were quite sceptical about our decision initially as to how it will be.
The location of the OYO room was fabulous. It was at a stone-throw distance from the Sai mandir

We had booked 2 rooms. The hotel manager gave us two adjacent rooms with a door in the middle which worked well for us.
The food at the hotel was average. We had dinner only once.
Tourist We
We have the habit of creating a list of viewpoints we want to cover when we visit a place. Since it is a small cantonment town it has its own restrictions at various points
Monkey point
Monkey Point is the highest peak of the town of Kasauli. One can get a complete view of the plains of Chandigarh and the river Sutlej flowing through the valleys. Since we had been to Kasauli in January end, the place was closed due to security reasons( Republic day around).
Mall Road
Every hill station must have a mall road where you can stay for a while relax and do quick shopping of souvenirs from the place. There was a handloom shop on the mall road from where we bought a carpet for our drawing room at dirt cheap price.
Christ (Anglican) Church
The church was constructed in the year 1853 and is built in Gothic style of architecture. It has beautiful coloured glass windows depicting Christ, Mary, Saint Barnabas and Saint Francis and is a beautiful structure to look at.
Rudra café
As an idle mall road, would have the mall road in Kasauli is filled with food joints. Since most of the food is “fast-food”, parents were not excited about it J However, I had read reviews of Rudra café before going to Kasauli and I had to visit it.
Rudra café was the best experience for us in Kasauli. It’s a small café by the road. They have live music and karaoke in the evening. We decided to have our breakfast there next morning before leaving for Delhi. In the morning though there was no music but the food was something out of the world. We got Veg sandwich, veg burger and a chicken burger for my husband. My mom was so tempted with the burger that we ordered a burger for her separately and she relished it to every bit.
Overall Kausali was a short and sweet family trip.
If you are someone like me who likes going away from a very crowded place Kasauli is one place you can look for.
