Shimla – Queen of Hills is a beautiful hill station in Himachal Pradesh. Read below if you would want to know how we travelled and had a fun vacation in Shimla – Queen of Hills
Shimla – Queen of Hills
How we Traveled
I feel the best way to travel to Shimla – Queen of Hills is by train via Kalka. We were travelling from Delhi.
There are number of trains that run between Delhi and Kalka. We took the Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi. Our train started from Delhi at 7:40 AM and we were in Kalka at 11:40 AM.
Kalka is connected to Shimla – Queen of Hills through narrow gauge toy train. The Kalka-Shimla Toy Train is a journey one should not miss. We boarded the Himalayan Queen which is scheduled at 12.10 PM. The journey between Kalka and Shimla took around 5 hours.
The toy train passes through multiple tunnel and your eyes are treated to beautiful sceneries of Mountains and Valleys of Deodar trees.
Where we Stayed
Thanks to Mommy and her Job at Bank of India, holiday homes have always been our bet for stay options during vacations.
None of us like those fancy hotels. What we look for are clean place to stay with good food for dinner option.
The associated hotel’s name is The TARA Lodge (do not go by the name Jit was quite good with basic amenities and really good food!). It is walking distance from the High court parking and the walk to the MALL Road was also very easy.
Tourist We
We reached on Saturday evening and spend the rest of the day at ease. Had some hot cup of tea and dinner and got accustomed to the weather. It wasn’t very chilly as there has been no Snowfall yet.

Short post but an interesting one! I had been to Shimla 20 years ago, feels like a lifetime now. We went by car from Shimla, did an overnight journey. It was fun to get out of the hot furnace that Delhi was. I liked walking on the Mall Road and having an ice cream softy – these are some of the memories I have of the trip.
Short but very interesting read.
Traveling is my passion…after reading your beautiful blog post I always feel so envious..?
